WR250R

… and then comes CHRISSY

There is lots of talk about downsizing adventure bikes.  Meanwhile the moto manufacturers are up-sizing bikes like crazy – Honda’s new Africa Twin 1000, BMW upgraded the venerable 650 with 800, now you can have a 1000 (besides the huge R1200GS).

I found my BMW F650GS Dakar a stunning bike.  Worked like a charm, drove like silk and plenty of power.  Still, the bike, farkles and me were over 320kgs.

So need a new idea.   A 2010 Yamaha WR250R !

It looks much better now that its been cleaned up!  It came with 8475 km, New Dunlop rear tire, broken RH mirror and bent front brake lever and a Yamaha brand skidplate.

With the intent to limit upgrades to remain as stock as possible, yet with an eye to adding some comfort for overlanding the long haul, I have upgraded:

  • Lynx R fairing (with 6 slot fuseblock, double USB+ 12V power, Amp/Volt Meter and GPS holder)
  • TechnoGlobe Gold Heated Hand grips (5 levels)
  • GIVI topbox
  • MITAS E-07 50-50 Tires (Rear 120/80-18, Front 90/90-21) according to forums are cheap yet long-wearing adventure tire
  • Hand guard protection
  • installed 14 tooth JT front sprocket (will convert to a 14/47 with 112 link 520 chain later)
  • Replaced the chain slider

There will be additional upgrades in the near future:

  • IMS 17 litre tank
  • Wolfman Enduro 7 litre tank bag (likely)
  • Side Luggage Racks – MotoRacks?

That’s about it for now.  No need for GPS now with Google Maps and Maps.Me apps on the phone.

PHASE: NEXT

Motorcycles!  Fanny imagines a trip Paris-Vladavostok-Japan-Korea-SouthEast Asia. Not now, but soon.  Starting with FANNY!

Graced with great reviews, some good specifications, Fuel Injection, presumed Honda reliability and parts availability and  more importantly a size corresponding with Fanny’s motorcycle permit…  AND it goes 120kph and gets 425km on a tank!
